IMDB had always been my favourite website for movie information, But I had to use other services to manage the movies I have watched, movies that I want to watch and get good movie recommendations.
Recently they started making improvements to the IMDB website. First they brought in the recently viewed bar which is purely a visual thing (for me) but still a good feature.
then they introduced watchlist which is a feature I have been waiting for a long time.
By introducing watchlist they made it easier for me to keep track of movies and TV shows which I want to watch.
Next thing was introduction of filters which make it easier to well… filter the movies according to Genres, user rating, release year etc.
and finally today morning when I was checking my watchlist for renting movies for the night I stumbled upon the new feature – Personalized Recommendations.
IMDB does give recommendations in the form of Similar Movies but it is just a hit or miss kind of thing.
IMDB takes all of the movies and TV shows that you’ve either rated or added to your Watchlist. Then, they compare your data to ratings made by other users and then find movies and TV shows that people with similar tastes to you have liked. For each recommendation, you can see a list of the movies or TV shows upon which the recommendation was based. You have either rated these titles highly, or added them to your Watchlist. To improve your personalized recommendations, find and rate the movies that you love.
