When the big announcement about Ovi Maps and free navigation took place last week, it strangely did not list Nokia N97 among the devices free navigation was available for.
Later Nokia confirmed that N97 would be getting free navigation within a week. Speculations started and everyone was guessing why free navigation to Nokia N97 was pushed a week.
Some of the guesses were -
- As Nokia N97 didn’t have much memory in C drive, Nokia would fix this problem with a new firmware and Ovi Maps/free navigation will come along with the firmware.
- Nokia is fixing Ovi Maps so that it can be installed in mass memory.
- The problem is not of low memory but of the firmware. A new firmware is required for the Ovi Maps to work in an optimal way.
– all wrong.
A few hours ago Ovi Maps with free navigation was released for N97 via SW Update.
- it still installs in C and eats about 10 MB of memory. – where is the new firmware which was going to fix the memory problem in C drive.
So, my question is as there are no new firmware and fixes, why didn’t Nokia release Ovi Maps a week before for N97 along with other devices. My guess is – The firmware was delayed (again!) and Nokia didn’t feel like keeping the N97 users waiting. Lets just hope the new firmware will do something about the C drive problem.
